CVS has a great deal right now on their CVS brand products. My husband has to take Prilosec - so I bought the generic CVS brand for $21.49.

Now their current deal is you buy $30.00 worth of CVS or Marked Brand Items in the store you get a $10.00 gift card.

Thus I bought the diet coke on sale $3.34, CVS brand Pepto tabs lg bottle $4.99, 2 - 2pks of CVS Hyrdrogen Peroxide for $4.00, and the Snickers because was marked for $1.00 so craving kicked in. Total w/out tax: $34.82.

Rememberance & Perspective

September 11, 2001.......Like a friend of mine said this will be a day you will vividly remember and know exactly where you were and what your were doing at that time ?

Now looking 10 yrs back, I was actually taken aback when someone recently just asked why would a virtuous GOD ever let something like 9-11 occur.

I started with my usual - GOD is not responsible for the evil in the world. That was put into place in the Garden of Eden and not by GOD's actions. You pray all the time for free will - begging GOD to let you do what you want to do and be who you want to be, etc. And he gives all of us that free will - he is a loving non-controlling GOD. But, then we moan/whine when he doesn't intercept the free will and prevent an event like 9-11.

This person just gave the blank stare that you get when you know they are just being cordial but not buying what you are saying. Then it just clicked in my head of a way to put it in relatable terms.

It took many, many years and thousands of hours to plan the evil attacks that occurred on that day. But, it only took mere seconds for GOD to put it to good use. Ordinary individuals were running into burning buildings, carrying injured strangers for blocks, digging through rebel, searching for anyway to help. Race, creed, sex, and religion didn't matter - we were just brothers and sisters. That is GOD at work.

Evil may take place, but GOD will always use it for good!!

Sept 11th has been set aside as the national day of service. You don't have to be a heroic act to help. Just keep your eyes open daily for a way to serve. It could be as simple as buying a cup of coffee for a stranger or even just opening a door. Small gestures to show that kindness and caring are still there!!

Unexpected Bargains

Always keep your eyes open, I was in the grocery store and I always stroll through the floral department. I love plants but have put a kibash on new plants since trying to stay on a budget. Then I noticed a little stand in the corner marked manager's special. Low and behold these beauties were sitting there. Now I call it the TLC table. The plants need a little love but I was able to purchase 3 orchids and 2 Kalanchoe plants all for $10.00.

Now I have never been able to grow orchids, but I have the best green thumb (aka Mere) to help me with that. So with two orchids loaded in my arms as gifts - off to Mere's I go. So, I will keep you updated on how these beauties progress. Hopefully no obituaries will be posted in the near future.

Moral of the story - keep your eyes open and think outside the box - there are always ways to rediscover passions even on a budget.

Complete Dinner on a Budget

Trying to slowly break into the coupon and bargain shopping world....Came up with a complete meal for two for only $4.17 (including desert)!!

Here's the breakdown - everything was bought from local Albertson's:
Cucumber Salad -sale 0.50, Italian sausage 2.24 (marked 3.14 - 1.00 in store coupon), Hamburger Helper 0.54 (on sale 0.79 - coupon 0.75/3), Marble cake square with fudge icing sale 0.99.

And yes even I could cook this meal - Now that is saying something!!

SUPERWOMEN .....

This Saturday started off with a text that produced a round of laughter (and I quote): “I’m in a mell of a hess!! HELP!!”

Me and Kimbo head out to a friend’s house. We usually do housekeeping for her on Saturday’s but this was above and beyond the call of duty!

Then, I started thinking of the definition of a modern super hero. Most super heroes must have certain qualities: Braun, Bravery, Brains and in this case will include Beauty of course.

So let’s see Braun: we arrived at the house to find boxes of delivered furniture in front of the front door. We moved the boxes and loaded them into the back of the SUV by ourselves.

Move on to Bravery: we get inside to find our friend trapped in the back of the house because the cats have brought a snake in the house and it is under the kitchen table. Now neither Kimbo nor I do snakes. But we pull out our super hero tools which consist of a broom and LONG handled kitchen tongs in this case. Managed get snake out the backdoor and into the yard.

Oh my now we need Brains: while in the midst of the crisis our friend misplaced and could not find her bottom denture (that is why she didn’t make the great escape – didn’t want to be seen as the toothless wonder). So we had to retrace her steps and finally found her teeth.

So by noontime we had used all our superhero powers and managed to clean the whole house without even eating our wheaties that morning!

All I can say is you gotta love the Apple!!!

OK....I watched TLC's coupon crazy show and was amazed by it. NO, I don't won't to be in a check out line for 3 hours with 15 buggies. But, it got me thinking what a great way to reduce an expense we all have.

So, I headed out to find a super score on something we use in our household. Here is my super transaction.

Purchased #1 box prilosec (42 count) on sale at Walgreens for $24.99.

24.99 - 5.00 register rewards on item - 8.00 coupon from SS = Total $11.99

Purchased #2 box prilosec for $24.99.

24.99 - 5.00 register rewards on item - 3.00 coupon from SS= Total $16.99

So Total right now for both boxes is $ 28.98.

Then I used rebate form - if you buy 2 boxes of prilosec get a $25.00 visa gift card.

So my net total is 28.98 - 25.00= $3.98

WOW $3.98 for 2 boxes of 42 count prilosec.

Even if you bought the generic version, 2 boxes would have cost $39.98. (YEP - I'M ADDICTED)

So now I'm thinking great ideas to find cheap or free grocery/ household items that could be donated (i.e. Womens Hope Center or Frozen Meal Ministry).

When I was driving home from work on Friday afternoon, in the grass median of a major four lane highway was a lady just standing there by her bicycle staring into the distance. My first reaction without any reservation was this woman is cuckoo... and kept driving. I continued fighting horrible traffic being frustrated and impatient at the other drivers trying to get home in warp speed from my daily grind of a job. A couple of seconds later after I passed this woman - I realized she had the happiest look on her face. She was watching the sunset over the river and was in complete awe of the wonder. Then I thought who is really cuckoo...not the lady on the side of the road but me the lady in speeding steel box. When was the last time you just sat and watched the sunset??

So for the past nine months straight I have been saying a prayer daily to stop the anti-life push by spiritually adopting an unborn baby. As you can see my lettering is almost completely worn off from my band.

Anyhow tonight was the culmination, I have cut my band off and released my dream of ever having a child. So tonight, I wish that you would say the prayer with me one last time:

I went to buy my boat tickets (aka.. lotto tixs) today at the local Cracker Barrell. I asked for my quick picks and the cashier asked me for my id. So, I played along and said sure. Dropped my license on the counter. She looked at me and looked at it and then called for the manager. I'm thinking of crap did I forgot to renew my driver's license.

Now mind you I am in a tee & jeans with not a stitch of makeup and hair pulled back in a pony tail. The cashier tells her manager that DOB is listed as 10-16-69 and that the id is fake. I could not be that age. I respond - Well thank you but yes I am !

She responds I have to report fake ids what do I do with this. Holy crap!! I tell her is it the acne because you get that when you get older to...you know that hormone thing... She just blankly stares at me and ask where I got the id..

Well I finally convinced her to give me back my id...but did not get to buy my boat tickets. Now if a winning ticket comes from that store....this forty year old will be kicking some butt like a teenager.

Called my hubbie to tell him what happened..his first response did she not see your skunk stripe (grey) on the top of your head....thanks honey ...love ya too!!

All I can say is that I am glad that Cracker Barrell hires the handicap (blind).....LOL!!

Why is it we feel so depressed when we are left out? Maybe because we always try to do things for other people. If I am going somewhere will invite anyone along - If I need a job done I give the business to a friend - If need a recommendation - I sing the praises...etc. Except for one person (who I consider not a friend but family) - you never see the reciprocation.

I know you should not harbor jealousy...so I let it go. Then the action repeats itself again and again. Even Mother Teresa herself commented on it: "Loneliness and the feeling of being unwanted is the greatest poverty."

So you still take the glass is half full approach. Maybe this is the sign that a new road has to be taken. So hears to hoping I don't get lost and my God GPS is working!!!!

Okay... I am embarrassed to display these before pixs. But here it goes. This is what my Ebay workroom currently looks like. I have everything pulled out and am attempting to get organized finally. EBay has grown a ton in the last year and I am not complaining at all. I have new opportunities with it hopefully coming through in the next couple of months. So, this organization is crucial. Yes, it is kind of difficult to organize currently have a range of things from vacuum cleaner, tree climbing spurs, to Victorian glass in my car to list. All I want to know is where is the extreme home makeover crew....if you don't hear from me again soon, send help I will be at the bottom of the ebay pile.

Fire in Denham Springs

My husband is fighting the massive fire in Denham Springs right now. Talked to him twice this afternoon to let me know he and his fellow firefighters are all still okay. This fire is huge. Last update was a few homes have caught on fire from the fallout of the explosions. Couple pixs below: one from the end of my subdivision on Hatchell and the other from the antique district. My house just shook from one explosion and freaked my dog out in the backyard - needless to say no more potty runs anytime soon. Amazing no one has been hurt -property can be replaced...Thanks to all these guys out here in District 4 and 5 who do this as total volunteers. Praying you all stay safe !!!

New Year - New Beginnings Right????...............WRONG!!!!!!

New Year - New Endings!!!!

It is time to break those chains, become totally debt free. "The borrower is slave to the lender." When you are in debt to another, you enter into a slave/master relationship with your creditor. (Proverbs 22:7)

There seems to be a million financial experts out there specializing in how to obtain a debt free goal. It is one equation no matter what - that solves the problem:

Increase Income - Cut Spending = Paying off Debts

Yet millions of us including myself stay in the same cycle over and over again. Well, I am fed up and done with it. I have to break the cycle . I remind myself - There are no instances in the Bible where God provides through a loan. He provided for his people in many ways but loans were not one of them. That is something to remind yourself the next time you get tempted to reach for that credit card.

But, now I have to figure out how to accomplish this task without totally depriving myself.

Definition of frugal -

1. not wasteful; not spending freely or unnecessarily; thrifty; economical

2. not costly or luxurious; inexpensive or meager

OK - first of all I disagree with the statement not luxurious. Fabulously Frugal means luxurious with little cost. Treating your fab self wisely on a littler budget.

My hope is to bring new avenues or new ways of looking at budgets that don't completely deny yourself of everything. You hear all the economic gurus chanting - don't buy anything, live on beans and rice. WHY??????

Why can't I reward myself for doing a good job for staying on a budget. I don't want to be the rabbit trying to chase the carrot tied on the end of the stick.

I think this could be a fun adventure. Find new ways of looking and doing things on smaller means. I will scour to find ideas and examples of budget friendly treats. I also hope this adventure will allow any of you out there to contribute your experiences and ideas.

Just remember, it all starts with just one step......So, here we go.............

We had to say goodbye to our beloved "Arabie" ! She quickly deteriorated this past week and was diagnosed with cancer. We had to make the decision to let her go today...one of the toughest things we have ever had to do. We will miss you and will always hold you close in our hearts.....Until we meet again!!

This is a touchy subject for most people, but the issue has been laying heavy on my heart. As a woman I feel no one has the right to tell me what I can or can't do with my own body. But as a woman who cannot conceive a child naturally or may never carry a fetus to term , I am having a hard time with the Freedom of Choice Act that is coming up for vote in our national legislation.

The Freedom of Choice Act basically says no one can be discriminated against or prevented from having an abortion. Don't get me wrong, I do think that there are times when women should have the right to make their own choice as to whether terminating a fetus is viable, i.e. rape, severe deformities, imminent danger to the mother's health etc.

But, this act says that any point in a pregnancy a fetus can be terminated (including partial birth abortions). It removes safeguard for medical professionals - a doctor will not be able to refuse for any reason to perform an abortion without possibility of charges and/or loss of their license. The act will also allow abortions to be performed by non licensed professionals. It eliminates parental consent needed for minors to have abortions. There will also be public funding, that's right our tax dollars, to pay for these abortions.

We reported to District 5 Fire Station for emergency duty. This is the view from our windshield as we were riding down the streets to calls. Most of you know we have an F250 pickup - James' baby. The truck weighs close to 8000 lbs.....no match for Gustav we were still rock and rolling in it. You can actually see a tree snap into the road in front of us. Needless to say we parked after that and battoned down the hatches to ride out the storm and be ready to respond when we were cleared to hit the roads again!!

Now that world is sort of getting back to normal will catch up on posts in order of history. Day before the storm we received a true gift -- tree man actually showed up at her house to take down rotten tree in the back yard. Look how big that sucker is.......all I can say glad it came down that way and not with the winds the next day!!

SLUMBER PARTY

That's right... we had a four legged slumber party this weekend. Had to rush out of work on Friday pm fly through traffic to Shenandoah to pick up Arabie's best bud in the world.....MITZI MOO!!! The girls had a wonderful weekend playing like old times. These dogs are such good buds they can't be seperated. And yes, the four legged girls did just what the two legged girls do......dressed up, stayed up late, ran around, and sleeped in the same bed!! So, thanks to Mr. Dudley for giving us weekend visitation rights.

Changes In Lifestyles

OK....so I haven't posted in a while. If you know me, then you know I have been through a lot lately. My world literally changed upside down. But, I think it happened for a reason. It has made me take steps I was thinking about but not acting on. It has also made me take a real hard look at my life. Where do I want to be, What do I want to be doing, What and Who is really important, What are my goals....YADA YADA YADA!!

This intraspect made me realize I have to put my budding business on the back burner for a lil' while. Unfortunately, I will be rejoining the workforce but my bsns partner and I will hopefully be generating enough business that she can stay home and handle up on everything. I am blessed to have such a good friend in my life.

My main goal is that I am going to become completely debt free. I am hanging it all out there for this. It is weird that we are ashamed to talk about our debts. You know we all have it, we all created it ourselves, and we all have to cope with it. So why is it so taboo??

I had to take a good long hard look in the mirror. I am nowhere near where I want to be. I had to own up to the fact of stop blaming everyone else and take responsibility myself. Time to pull up those boot straps girl !! I am tired of pretending everything is okay. Why are we so afraid of what other people will think? Why do I have to keep up with the Jones'? Why do I have to act like the grass is always greener on my side? I feel it is time to just be honest and open. If you can't do that then what is the point?

My upcoming posts will be about the trip to debt free land and how it can be accomplished especially in such hard times as now (gas prices, rising cost of food, etc.)

Maybe someone will read this and get inspired. Or they can give me hints along the way. Whatever happens.. it is my online diary of this trip... and you are welcome to come along for the bumpy ride!!

Slidell Antique Trade Days

Well...what an adventure! Had a great time! Me and Nancy waited on the rainstorms in the van as I spotted what has to be the best craft invention roll by.... a portable booth on wheels complete with flowerboxes. Makes me wonder what I am doing wrong especially when I realize we packed the tent in the front of the van under the 10 tons of necessary stuff we haul with us everywhere. After unloading (by the way we became Friday night entertainment when the locals parked in lawn chairs outside the dentist office across the street to watch the two crazy ladies unload...never knew crafting could be a spectator sport) our 10 tons of crap created I have to say one of the best craft booths at the whole show. We looked good- Great job Nancy!! We enjoyed meeting the local people (2 and 4 legged) Miss. Bella came in for a personal fitting and modeled some of her new designer dog dudes on the mainstreet of downtown. Like a true diva she stopped traffic and drew a crowd . Well I feel much better - feel like my desire and drive have been revived especially when I had several customers say that Kimbo and my designs are so much more unique that famous chihauhau store in the French Quarter. Can't wait until next weekend when the 3 crazy ladies take over Denham - See ya there!

Had the first crawfish boil of the season. James scored a sack of select crawfish. They were like mini lobsters ....but yummier. Everyone knows I love the claws...so these monsters were right up my alley. Nothing better that cold beer and hot crawfish to bring in spring in south louisiana!

Do you have to ask why.....Just look at that perfect pan of homemade lasagna. Eight layers with 6 different cheeses, fresh zuchini / squash, and 3 different types of meats. UMMMMMMM!!! Now you know why the treadmill doesn't work for me. But, what more could a girl ask for.....maybe another slice.

Well it is official : we took our first baby step. We secured the permanent name for our upcoming store and website. I feel so good just accomplishing that lil bit. The name is still classified until we get trademarking. So you will have to stay tuned for it. Now all we have to do is tackle the state for our next step. Kimberly was upgraded from riding the hump to driver since I am staying behind- of course no cargo van so she has to maneuver a BIG MAMA - 20 foot truck! Can tell by her parking skills hasn't quite earned her trucker handle yet, but we still love her --- Go Girl!!

Feeling Blue

Feeling Blue today - my partners are leaving for an outdoor show in Ponchatoula. The weather is beautiful for once here. They will have the weekend outside in the weather doing one of our favorite shows. I know shows are work - but that is work we love. I am grateful we are able to participate in the show. I am trying to see the positive - we are hoping to have a great show and use the funds to start laying down the foundation of our new venture .
But, at the same time I am sad that I have to stay behind and be stuck inside at a job I hate. So my rambling leads me to this: Out of curiosity I looked up the origin of feeling blue. I found the following explanation on google - it comes from a navy terminology - "If you are sad and describe yourself as "feeling blue," you are using a phrase coined from a custom among many old deepwater sailing ships. If the ship lost the captain or any of the officers during its voyage, she would fly blue flags and have a blue band painted along her entire hull when returning to home port."

Simple Pleasures In Small Things

Do you ever get the simplest purest pleasure out of a small thing. Well this happened to me today. I went to google images to search for a dog dress design and low and behold what did I find on page 3 but our magnificent model "Mitzi"! I know it doesn't seem like a big thing but I have no idea how we got there. I am by no means a techie. Kimberly and I have been discussing taking small steps toward our business plans thinking that cosmicly (or as we say "By God's Hand") things will start falling into place. So maybe our karma is swinging in the right direction. Stay tuned to find out.

Board Of Directors Meeting

Well, we are on our way. Our first board of director's meeting. Nancy, Kimberly, and I worked on our yearly show schedule. Can't wait to get going again. Although our shows are a lot of work, I enjoy that type of work. I guess that is being fulfilled feels like. Anyhow, the same old problem came up again. Having to sacrifice our show schedule due to Kimberly and my work schedule. We have to make concessions in our business because our employer is not flexible nor appreciative of what we do. So, I am laying it out in black and white (yes Kimbo you are seeing blue though) come the busy fall schedule our employment will not be a problem. Hopefully it will be nothing more than a vanishing image in the rear view mirror of our packed new truck loaded with our wonderful things. Can't wait to post that pix!

Fat Tuesday.........Mardi Gras

Today is Mardi Gras.....you know when you are getting older instead of partying spending the day at home with family: my hubbie and my dog. But, those are the best times. Instead of beads only thing being thrown around here is dog bones. The princess of the house doesn't mind though. Just spending a relaxing day at home. I don't get those to often. Sewing, Ebaying, and Relaxing ...my favorite things. Hope everyone enjoys the day in there own special way. Laissez les bon temps rouler!!!

Krewe of Mutts 2008

I thoroughly enjoyed myself at the Krewe of Mutts parade on Sunday 1-27-08. My hats off to the CAAWS volunteers for a great event. This year's theme was Las Vegas: What happens in the kennel stays in the kennel! If I do have to toot our own horn, I do believe our booth looked fabulous. Wish we always had this much room to display - have to work hard on my cheif financial officer/ parttime wharehouse staff shown in photo for that space this coming year! This event I think got me back on track - what is important is what makes me happy! Time to put my passion as my priority! To quote Joyce Meyer's: You are always busy, but are you fruitful with what your busy at?????? (HMMMMMMMMM......NO!) So time to thrown down the gauntlet and roll up the sleeves! My goal is by the time of the parade next year I will be employed full time with my pet business, we will be sponsoring a float in the parade, and I am gonna gamble and say we have a beautiful storefront by that time! Now it's written in black & white, I have to live up to it. So check back to go along on the ride this year and see if I hit my goals!

Godsend or what?

Well 2008 was suppose to start as my year. Not off to a good start. My husband has been asking for a German shepherd dog for a couple of years. Never gave in and believed if it was suppose to happen it would. Well thought my prayers were answered, along comes "Diesel" a shepherd that was found running loose changed hands a few times and ended up with me. I had prayed if that was meant to happen it would. I was thoroughly convinced God has sent what I was suppose to have in my life.

That is until today, the German shepherd's previous owners tracked me down and wanted their dog back. Being a honest person, I would never keep someone else's dog. So, unfortunately "Diesel" departed our family today.

Now what I am suppose to think Godsend or what? I know a lot of you out their think get over it is a dog. My pets are my family. My motto is "Pets are not your whole life....but they make your life whole."
